Jute Wrapped Letter

I was at JoAnn Fabrics a while back and came across this HUGE 24" cardboard letter A.  I had never seen one this big but I was so happy to get it home and wrap it up with some Jute.  The letter and jute came to around $15.00 ($10.00 for letter and around $4.00 for the roll of Jute)..very inexpensive project!

Here is what you will need to make the Jute Wrapped Letter....

Cardboard Letter - any size

Jute

Hot Glue

Embellishment - I used metal flowers

Here's how I got started....

Plain Letter and Jute

I started by wrapping the jute vertically first.  I only do this to the top and bottom so they are covered in the jute before I completely wrap it horizontally.  Start by applying hot glue and then wrap six or seven times around and hot glue again..keep repeating these steps until your done with the section.

Closer Up....

I then cut some jute strips to cover the top of the A...don't worry what it looks like here, because it gets covered when you go over it horizontally....

I did the same thing to the bottom left and right of the A as well...just cute some strips and hot glue them...

I was now ready to wrap the whole letter and I started from the bottom, working my way to the top.  Every six or seven wraps, I would hot glue a little section just to keep it in place.

Here it is almost done....

See, you can't even tell what it looks like underneath the horizontal strips of jute....

All Done....

I spray painted some metal flowers I had and glued them to the bottom...

and then I hung it in my kitchen....

Floral Arrangement for the Foyer......

I promise I haven't abandoned my blog but I have so many projects going on that I can't get them all finished and posted!  I did manage to snap a few pictures of a floral arrangement I just finished last week for my entry table.  I loved the colors so much in my basket I made for my front door (see that HERE) that I decided to do the same in a pottery bowl I purchased from JoAnn's.  

Here is the picture of the arrangement finished.....

The bowl came from JoAnn's and all of the flowers were purchased from Hobby Lobby at half price. 

I placed these floral foam squares in the bowl first and then started placing my flowers in it...I started by putting the big flowers around the edges first and then just worked my way to the middle.  

Here's the finished product....I am going to make another soon and I will take step by step pictures for you.

A Front Door Welcome

If you have read my blog for a while, you know that I love to decorate my front porch and make wreaths.  I wanted a new wreath for this upcoming season, but I also wanted to do something a little different.  When I was shopping a couple of weeks ago, I came across this big wicker basket with a burlap rope and fell in love with it.  I could just imagine it on my door with some beautiful rich colors that would accent my dark front door perfectly.  Here is what I came up with.....

I went to Hobby Lobby this week because their floral stems are 50% off and grabbed the small "A" from JoAnn's....

When I got to Hobby Lobby, I really had no particular color I was going for.  When I came across the purple berries I just thought they were so beautiful and homey looking.  I grabbed those first and just worked off that color scheme, which included greens and browns.

I started working from the back forward...I had no idea what I was doing, I was just trying to make everything even....here is a closer look at the floral stems.... 

I came across this roll of burlap at Michaels for $4.99 a roll.  I simply tied it around the basket and adhered my initial "A" with floral wire after I spray painted it with Rustoleum - Heirloom White.

I think the end result was exactly what I had imagined when I saw the basket.  I like that it's not bulky and too thick.  I loved the basket so much that I went back and bought the small basket for my hallway....I will post that pic on my facebook page.....

A Special Valentine Gift.....

We have lived in the Dallas area for a couple of years now and my son's heart is still back in Houston...he left alot of friends and family, but to him, the one he misses the most is his little girlfriend...okay, they are 6 and 7, but you would think they are forever soul mates.  I miss them just as much as he does and can't wait to get back one day.  Until then, we were talking about what he wanted to get his "girlfriend" for Valentine's Day and he said, "I want to get her jewelry"...well what girl wouldn't want jewelry...so we came up with this....remember, she is 6!!

I started out by going to The Container Store and grabbing a couple of supplies.  I grabbed a necklace jewelry box for the candy necklace and a clear acrylic box for the candy ring.....both of these items cost less than $3.00.

I had some Valentine scrapbook paper and covered the necklace box.

I love my Xyron machine, it makes projects like this go so fast....

Paper for the top of box lid and the two strips are for the bottom part of the box.

All taped to box...

I cut two coordinating ribbons to go around the lid of the box...

After the box was done, we put her name on top of the box....

The acrylic box was for the ring!  I used hot glue to secure the ring inside the box.  We embellished the lid of the box with some small pom pom ribbon and hot glued a rhinestone on top.

Here is the box with a little message on the inside of the lid so she will see it when she opens the box....and of course, the candy necklace!

Don't you think this is a much cheaper and fun way to give "jewelry"....
